BATAC CITY, Ilocos Norte—Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod unanimously approved an ordinance appropriating a 10 percent salary adjustment for all regular employees and elected officials of the city government.

The total amount appropriated was P1.9 million for the salary increase, good for the remaining six months of the year, or from July to December.

Ms Venus Flojo, budgeting assistant, said the P1.9 million appropriation includes representation and transportation allowance (RATA) for department heads as well as city officials.

Batac Vice Mayor Allan Nalupta said he is hoping that with the salary increase, those who would be benefited should work harder in their respective fields of specialization.

He also clarified that casual employees are not included in the salary adjustment.

He further stated that the salary increase was in reply to a national directive from the Department of Finance which ordered a 10 percent salary increase for government workers.

The increase would be sourced from the LGU fund.

The measure was sponsored by finance committee chair Councilor Bernardo Marders.
