BATAC CITY - Members of this city’s Sangguniang Panlungsod approved the twin resolutions requesting Department of Education (DepEd) Sec. Jesli Lapuz and Department of Justice Sec. Raul Gonzales for the creation of the city schools division superintendent and city prosecutor posts, respectively

for Batac City. Batac Councilor Bernardo Marders, sponsor of the measures, said it is only proper that the said positions should be created for the new city as the said posts are mandated for all cities.

Marders added that the Batac City Hall is ready to host the two new offices.
However, he also said that the city government is also willing to provide a lot for the construction of City DepEd building, provided the DepEd would shoulder the cost for the construction. The 7-hectare lot owned by the city government would serve as Batac’s counterpart fund.

The City Prosecutor’s Office, for its part, would be provided an office at the Hall of Justice.

Marders went on to explain that similar to Laoag City, the Batac city government would recognize the two offices as part of the city government, considering that both would be directly involved with city concerns.

He added that the city government would also be ready to support all the undertaking and programs of the two offices though both are national government in perspective.

The Ilocos Times learned that the Laoag City government also supports all programs and activities of the said offices and whatever achievements and recognitions that they would garner would also automatically mention the Laoag City.

The Laoag City government appropriates 1% of total real property tax collection for the School Board Fund.

For this year, the Laoag City DepEd has a P9 million budget intended for the city DepEd’s own programs and activities.
